Take a deep breath right now and let it out slowly. Close your eyes while you’re at it. I want you to let your inner senses in on your environment. Focus on your achievements, past rewards, attained goals, the people around you and the lives you’ve touched. Think about the life you’re currently living. Does it fit the wave of your dreams? Or are you just holding on to a life line? Are you happy? Do you feel successful?
In a world full of mind weighing pressures, where success is equally tied to your endless list of possessions, people work themselves out tirelessly without thinking about what really matters. Have you like me also being in the position where you feel like a working machine; not living life as it ought to be lived?
Success is not by chance, it’s worked for. I’ve read a lot of books and through my endless thorough research, I’ve been made to realize that we can say goodbye to a sad unfulfilled life and live a life of optimum success and happiness by following these five major principles;
1. Develop great habits
Your success ride starts with dropping all the baggage and picking up good stuff. Your habits can either make or break you. Make new resolutions. Do you sit in front of the TV all day watching mindless jargon? Tell yourself, you’re going to reach for a book instead or complete that project.
You can start with basic changes like waking up earlier. Stop hitting the snooze button. Punctual people are always taken more seriously and you tend to be happier when you finish all your tasks on time.
Staying fit and healthy should also be a major priority for you. Set challenges for yourself. Learn to exercise and cut down on the junks. Go for your doctor’s appointment and have yourself checked. Take your skincare routine more seriously. Drop all habits that are harmful to your health. If you need to see a counselor or attend group meetings to help yourself, do just that and feel no shame about it. A healthy body makes a happy man. When you make healthy decisions for yourself and start seeing the changes, there’s a boost of confidence and more energy is channeled into being productive.
It is important to have fun but prioritize. It takes 25 days to build a habit but I’ll advice you practice that new habit for about three months so it becomes something you can’t leave without.
2. Focus and reflect on the positives
A major key to improving your mental health is learning to fix your mind on the right things. Yes, you might have been really hurt in the past and it seems like those memories always come right back to haunt you. You feel like you’ll never be free from the shadows of your mind, but that’s not true. You only feel that way because you never let yourself full mental freedom. Change your mind’s diet. Feed it with the right things. Know that your actions now can’t change the past but can only build the present and future. Learn the lesson and move on. Instead of focusing on past regrets and disappointment, why don’t you take time out to plan the future? Constantly setting your mind on all the greatness you want to achieve and all the essence the future holds will go a long way to push out that depression. Do not let sad or depressing thoughts linger in your mind for even a second.
Sit back and reflect. Take time to appreciate people as giving sincere compliments opens your eyes to the great qualities you also possess, eliminating bitterness in the process. You can learn to keep journals. It will be even better if you find a place of appealing nature outdoor to write your daily thoughts and feelings as the sun sets and you’re overwhelmed with the beauty of life.
Live fully and live the moment with no fears, because at the end, all that matters is how you made yourself and others feel.
3. Build a better version of yourself
It is very common to feel you’ve achieved enough and relax, but have you? Or you’re just taking the easy way out? This in no way encourages greed but you should never be comfortable with being underachieved. You need to push your abilities and talent to the maximum height it can reach. Do not overwork yourself but constantly seek development and improvement. Nothing comes on a platter of gold so you have to work for it. A lot of great achievers we know didn’t stop at one attempt or give up. They constantly kept trying till they achieved attainable results and still didn’t stop there till those results were perfectly developed.
Practice new skills and develop old ones. You have no excuse to let your gifts rot away. Toss procrastination out of the window and attend that music class now. Learn that new language. Take that online course. Build on your works, solicit feedbacks and take to constructive criticism. Mine that gold within you and bless the world with it. Do not let the fear of not being good enough stop you because by the time you start taking actions you’ll be surprised at the giant you were letting die within you.
Aim high for the top with no limits and be the best you can be. Take responsibility and control.
4. Follow your passion and purpose
A lot of people are so caught up in the web of money that they forget to do what truly makes them happy. If what brings you money also gives you joy, then fine. but never trade your happiness and satisfaction at the expense of anything. Nothing is worth it, if it doesn’t make you smile with self assurance.
Be bold enough to stand out. Do not work in the shadows of others unless perhaps they’re your role models. Stop letting the fear of what people will say hinder you, reject rejection. Prove them wrong by putting drive into your passion and exceeding limitations. We all have our own separate paths in life. Work your own path and never compare yourself with anyone. Set standards for yourself.
5. Value the ones you love
When last did you take time out to hang out with your friends or go on a family vacation? Are you putting so much energy into work that your family and friends are now close to the bottom of the list? Always remember to place value on the ones you love. Be the listening ear your friends need in times of trouble. Be the shoulder your spouse can cry on in times of pain and distress. Learn to nurture others. Make enough time for your family and friends.
Relax and go on that vacation. It’s absolutely important to take time out to loosen up or you’ll break. I personally love travelling, so on days when I’m off work, I take that daring trip to Greece or fly out to Singapore . Try out new food, meet new people. Have you always wanted to visit the seven wonders of the ancient world? Add it to your bucket list and start saving up for it now.
It could also be as simple and costless as taking a walk in the park with the one you love or having a picnic with the family. Stop being the sly friend in a group hangout. Reach out to the ones that are dare to your heart because they, like pillars, hold your strong building and keep you from falling.
Famous past American president, Franklin Roosevelt once said “Happiness lies in the joy of achievement and the thrill of effort”. You have to find bliss in what you to do. Keep building on these principles to live a balanced, happy and fulfilled life. No one promised it to be an easy ride but the end is definitely one to strive for.
Big thanks for your visit,
Yours
Manoj.
