The Law of Averages – How To Be Successful In Anything You Do

In virtually every field in life, laws are very much applicable. In Physics, Newton’s Laws are fundamental and in Mathematics, Commutative Laws hold precedent. Even social sciences such as Psychology, talk about laws which govern human behavior and interaction. Success is not an exemption and there are multiple laws that explain how to be successful. We’ve all listened to tapes, watched videos, and read an article or two on how to be successful. Who wouldn’t want to be successful?

But success isn’t just about having an office with a view and making seven figures a year as a salary. We want to be successful in every aspect of our life; in our marriages, in our relationship with our friends, in our parenting and even in our hobbies. There’s a chemical in our brain that rewards us every time we feel great at something we do. The need to be successful in anything and everything we do is inert. If you’ve read enough books and listened to enough motivational speakers, in fact, if you’ve ever followed any motivational trend on any social media, you would have observed by now that they all preach one thing, consistency. You’re probably even tired of hearing successful people tell you the secret to making it big and achieving your goals is consistency. But maybe the reason it has been repeated over and over again is because there is no special secret other than the one we’ve all heard about. The problem is most people get discouraged and throw in the towel when they fail.

For example, say you’re faced with a challenge with four possible outcomes lettered A, B, C and D, with letter A being the most favorable outcome. All things being equal, the chances of ending up with an outcome like A would be one out of four, if done once; and two out of eight if done twice. This means that by doubling the number of times you face this particular challenge (which could represent anything in your life) you also double the number of times outcome A is attainable. “The Law of Averages” is the straight forward and practical ratio that has now been demonstrated.

Applying The Law of Averages was something I learned earlier in life through physical marketing and sales. As a student I worked with a non-profit organization that was big on working on Sustainable Development Goals. So it wasn’t unusual that some of our projects would involve submitting letters to schools to give a presentation or sourcing for funds for these projects. One of our projects included getting donations to help in providing clean water to rural communities in the area. It was my first time doing anything that remotely involved sales and I assumed since I was a natural at making friends and talking to people, I would automatically have an easy time getting donations for our cause.

But I was in for a rude awakening, apart from a few people who barely listened to our pitch, most people were nice enough to give us their attention, but that was about it. There weren’t a lot of people willing to give to our cause, but my partner encouraged me to not stop, and we continued. For every block we visited, there were at least two people willing to lend a hand to our cause, so we translated that to needing to visit more blocks in order to get more donations. It was grueling and my feet not only hurt, but I was mentally exhausted from going over the same speech again and again with enough enthusiasm to not seem too mechanical. But by the time my partner and I got back to the office, we had gotten the most donations out of the other five teams that went out. The fact we got more donations was not independent of the fact we had stayed out the latest and longest, despite the fact we had been rejected far more times than the other teams. Our donations were significantly higher, because according to “The Law of Average,” the more you give, the more you get. In which case, compared to the other teams, my partner and I gave more time and effort and so were rewarded with a better result.

The more time, energy and money you put into something, the more you will get out; and subsequently, the better you get and eventually the greater your chances are at ending up with outcome A or your desired result, as the odds begin to tilt in your favor. This is why successful people make more money. They’ve worked on their craft for so long and so hard. They know what their level of performance is worth and they feel comfortable demanding more than the average person because they are fully aware of their value.

Anybody with ambition and a little ingenuity can make up in numbers what they lack in skills. There is a direct correlation between success and the number of times something is done. This is a universal law that works with both people and things.

One of the other advantages of The Law of Averages is it weighs the possibility of bad things occurring as well, in this case the possibility of outcomes B, C and D taking place being three out of four. It is realistic in the sense that things will not always go according to plan and you will not always be rewarded for all your efforts. Depending on the difficulty of the challenge and number of potential other outcomes, your endeavors for success may not always be met with the corresponding level of success and happiness you were seeking. That is, if at all, you are rewarded with anything. But keep in mind that the likelihood of certain events happening eventually evens out if the frequency is increased.

This law can be applied to any field in your life. If you’re familiar with the sitcom show “How I Met Your Mother,” then you understand this. The show follows its main character Ted Mosbey as he narrates to his children the story of how he met their mother through nine seasons that talk about his multiple failed relationships. One of the reoccurring traits of the character worth noting is his persistence to find the perfect match no matter how many times the odds are stacked against him, as they often are. The same applies to real life in which the odds are often stacked against you, and it can be quite competitive. Yes, who you are and the kind of upbringing you have can play a factor in how easily you attain success and happiness, but ultimately the amount of energy and time you put into something will always tell. It’s a universal law that cannot be disputed.

What drives successful people is the drive to always obtain outcome A, which mind you, might not always be measurable such as in the case of learning a new skill. The number of times you are willing to fail is the exact same number of times you are willing to succeed. So don’t get discouraged by your rejections, you’re bound to run into rejections and that’s part of the natural course of life. Just remember, that according to the universal Law of Average, the more you give, the more you get.

Thanks for your visit!

How To Manage And Control Your Emotions

Emotions are a vital part of our daily lives. How you feel can affect your total wellbeing as a person and influence your reaction to people. You might be having a good laugh over a chat with a friend or frustrated by slow customer service at the bank. As much as that is a normal way to feel considering the situation, it is also very important to regulate those emotions so they don’t over ride our sense of reasoning.

Controlling your emotions perfectly requires you to have basic understanding of emotional intelligence. Emotional intelligence is a social skill that enables you to become more aware and genial in understanding handling your emotions as well as that of others. They improve your coping, wellbeing, relationship satisfaction and resilience. According to Mayer, Caruso and Salovey’s four branch models, an emotional intelligent individual has the ability to perceive, convey, comprehend and regulate emotions effectively. Just as we try to increase our cognitive intelligence(IQ) by taking all sorts of test and engaging our brain power. It is also of great importance to put a lot of effort and drive into improving our emotional intelligence.

Our emotional responses result from the way we appraise our experiences. The difference between people who are always frustrated, stressed and complaining and those who don’t let little things get to them is their choice. You decide how you feel and it’s totally up to you to let something hurt and affect your affect your mood. Inability to regulate emotions is the root of a lot of psychological disorders. Your emotions will naturally control your thinking but they’re ways to deal with it. Here are five basic steps that can help you manage your emotions;

1. Concede and admit to your feelings

The first and most important step in taking charge of your emotions is to acknowledge those feelings. We don’t just sit and wait for our problems to run away on their own, we confront them and cut the chase. Accept that what you’re feeling is natural and not abnormal. You won’t be classified as a very normal human being if someone slaps you and you don’t get angry or you feel no sadness when you just lost money or a job. Those troubling feelings are only going to keep resurfacing and haunting you if you don’t admit that it’s an issue you need to tackle.

Become aware of how you feel in particular situations and identify those emotions. Name them if you can. Start taking active steps towards monitoring your emotions. Take note of physical reactions like a faster heart rate, shallow breathing, jaw clenching or tense muscles. When you’re able to recognize when your feelings are going spiral, they become less difficult to control.

Identifying what the emotions are also helps you find the root cause. Ask yourself, why do i feel this way? Do you find yourself bitter and angry about everything? Trace it back to your past. It might have been because of your parent’s divorce or physical violence you ones experienced. Try to point out situations where you felt that way in time past. This gives you a broader understanding of your emotions and puts you on top of your feelings.

2. Avoid emotional triggers

Now that you’ve identified your emotions and their cause. The next step is to avoid places and situations that crank you up. It is of crucial importance to stay away from toxic people or anything that affects your mental health. Run from them like a plague. If you constantly feel weighed down or under a lot of pressure when you’re in a particular company, it’s best to cut that company altogether. Stay away from things that instigate sadness or depression. It could be the music you listen to, the books you read or even the movies you’re watching. If they keep on building negative feelings in you, trash them now.

3. Renew and channel negative thoughts into positive ones

You just spent close to 2 hours in traffic on your way to work, you end up late and now your boss is complaining about a particular presentation you didn’t get right. On your way back from your boss’ office. someone spills a cup of coffee on you. The first thing you feel is a deep urge to lash out or even go as far as hitting the person with the coffee mug. But as one who is learning how to control their emotions, this is what you should do. Don’t react right away; instead, realize that what you feel now is a buildup of emotions that have piled through the sequence of negative scenarios you’ve been experiencing earlier.

When you learn how to take a deep breath and think through your emotional response, your journey towards a really high emotional intelligence begins. Relax and visualize a pleasant situation or happy moments. Imagine that negative emotion as a physical obstacle you can remove or throw away. Then slowly envision the stress flowing out of your body. It is very vital to develop calming physical routines incase of negative triggers.

Understand that you have the choice to pick how you feel. Try doing the opposite of what you’ll normally do. For example, instead of lashing out on the co-worker who spilled their coffee on you. You can work straight to the bathroom and see if the damage can be undone. If it can’t, think up a solution and take action. You’ll agree that is definitely more productive than yelling and allowing your anger take charge of you. You can even fuel that emotional anger into your work, improving your productivity through out the day.

Shift your attentional focus. If you’ve ever watched the movie “Sound of music”, then you’ll remember the song about a few of your favorite things. Sing your own personal song.

4. Communicate your feelings

Learn to express your feelings directly and confidently. It is important to know how to communicate your feelings assertively. It helps you control your emotions while also creating change. It’s okay to say how you feel or speak out on things that make you uncomfortable so far you do so clearly and tactfully. Learn to speak out in ways that do not also hurt the other person so you don’t come out as judgmental. Instead of saying “You always shun me” you could try “I felt a little bit hurt when you turned my opinion down at the meeting”. This way you’ve let the hurt flow out of you without also blaming the other person. Not being able to communicate your feelings, builds them up within you and you’ll find yourself exploding at the wrong time if you’re not careful.

You can also keep a journal or a happy book where you write down your feelings. Instead of focusing on the negatives you can write down one or two things that made you happy. It could be as little as a good song you heard or a staff that made you laugh. A journal helps you to better recognize your emotions and how you react to them. Ask yourself questions in your journals. Write down more helpful ways to deal with the emotion so you’re better prepared the next time it comes up.

5. Seek professional help

Sometimes you seem to have tried everything and still find yourself in a state of emotional turmoil. Difficulty regulating your emotions might be an underlying symptom of a more serious problem like depression or mental disorder. You might need to see someone who is licensed and professionally trained to help you work through your feelings. Never feel ashamed or disoriented about seeing someone. It doesn’t mean you’re mentally ill, it only indicates that you’re mature and mentally prepared enough to deal with your feelings which are a plus on emotional intelligence. If you’re confused to how to go about it, you can ask your family doctor to recommend an experienced psychologist and trust me when I say, you’ll be better for it.

Do not also cultivate the habit of lying to your doctor. They are here to help you and won’t be able to do their job if you can’t express your feelings confidently. Yes, it won’t be an easy one at first because you may feel like you’re opening up to a complete stranger. But gradually, you’ll grow to be comfortable with them and you’ll start noticing outstanding progress in your mental health.

Emotions are like a wild stream. They are powerful and determine a lot in your life. Gaining control will make you stronger mentally and just like any other skill; regulating your emotions require constant practice and devotion.

Thanks for your visit,

Yours

Five Principles To Live By For A Successful, Happy Life

Take a deep breath right now and let it out slowly. Close your eyes while you’re at it. I want you to let your inner senses in on your environment. Focus on your achievements, past rewards, attained goals, the people around you and the lives you’ve touched. Think about the life you’re currently living. Does it fit the wave of your dreams? Or are you just holding on to a life line? Are you happy? Do you feel successful?

In a world full of mind weighing pressures, where success is equally tied to your endless list of possessions, people work themselves out tirelessly without thinking about what really matters. Have you like me also being in the position where you feel like a working machine; not living life as it ought to be lived?

Success is not by chance, it’s worked for. I’ve read a lot of books and through my endless thorough research, I’ve been made to realize that we can say goodbye to a sad unfulfilled life and live a life of optimum success and happiness by following these five major principles;

1. Develop great habits

Your success ride starts with dropping all the baggage and picking up good stuff. Your habits can either make or break you. Make new resolutions. Do you sit in front of the TV all day watching mindless jargon? Tell yourself, you’re going to reach for a book instead or complete that project.

You can start with basic changes like waking up earlier. Stop hitting the snooze button. Punctual people are always taken more seriously and you tend to be happier when you finish all your tasks on time.

Staying fit and healthy should also be a major priority for you. Set challenges for yourself. Learn to exercise and cut down on the junks. Go for your doctor’s appointment and have yourself checked. Take your skincare routine more seriously. Drop all habits that are harmful to your health. If you need to see a counselor or attend group meetings to help yourself, do just that and feel no shame about it. A healthy body makes a happy man. When you make healthy decisions for yourself and start seeing the changes, there’s a boost of confidence and more energy is channeled into being productive.

It is important to have fun but prioritize. It takes 25 days to build a habit but I’ll advice you practice that new habit for about three months so it becomes something you can’t leave without.

2. Focus and reflect on the positives

A major key to improving your mental health is learning to fix your mind on the right things. Yes, you might have been really hurt in the past and it seems like those memories always come right back to haunt you. You feel like you’ll never be free from the shadows of your mind, but that’s not true. You only feel that way because you never let yourself full mental freedom. Change your mind’s diet. Feed it with the right things. Know that your actions now can’t change the past but can only build the present and future. Learn the lesson and move on. Instead of focusing on past regrets and disappointment, why don’t you take time out to plan the future? Constantly setting your mind on all the greatness you want to achieve and all the essence the future holds will go a long way to push out that depression. Do not let sad or depressing thoughts linger in your mind for even a second.

Sit back and reflect. Take time to appreciate people as giving sincere compliments opens your eyes to the great qualities you also possess, eliminating bitterness in the process. You can learn to keep journals. It will be even better if you find a place of appealing nature outdoor to write your daily thoughts and feelings as the sun sets and you’re overwhelmed with the beauty of life.

Live fully and live the moment with no fears, because at the end, all that matters is how you made yourself and others feel.

3. Build a better version of yourself

It is very common to feel you’ve achieved enough and relax, but have you? Or you’re just taking the easy way out? This in no way encourages greed but you should never be comfortable with being underachieved. You need to push your abilities and talent to the maximum height it can reach. Do not overwork yourself but constantly seek development and improvement. Nothing comes on a platter of gold so you have to work for it. A lot of great achievers we know didn’t stop at one attempt or give up. They constantly kept trying till they achieved attainable results and still didn’t stop there till those results were perfectly developed.

Practice new skills and develop old ones. You have no excuse to let your gifts rot away. Toss procrastination out of the window and attend that music class now. Learn that new language. Take that online course. Build on your works, solicit feedbacks and take to constructive criticism. Mine that gold within you and bless the world with it. Do not let the fear of not being good enough stop you because by the time you start taking actions you’ll be surprised at the giant you were letting die within you.

Aim high for the top with no limits and be the best you can be. Take responsibility and control.

4. Follow your passion and purpose

A lot of people are so caught up in the web of money that they forget to do what truly makes them happy. If what brings you money also gives you joy, then fine. but never trade your happiness and satisfaction at the expense of anything. Nothing is worth it, if it doesn’t make you smile with self assurance.

Be bold enough to stand out. Do not work in the shadows of others unless perhaps they’re your role models. Stop letting the fear of what people will say hinder you, reject rejection. Prove them wrong by putting drive into your passion and exceeding limitations. We all have our own separate paths in life. Work your own path and never compare yourself with anyone. Set standards for yourself.

5. Value the ones you love

When last did you take time out to hang out with your friends or go on a family vacation? Are you putting so much energy into work that your family and friends are now close to the bottom of the list? Always remember to place value on the ones you love. Be the listening ear your friends need in times of trouble. Be the shoulder your spouse can cry on in times of pain and distress. Learn to nurture others. Make enough time for your family and friends.

Relax and go on that vacation. It’s absolutely important to take time out to loosen up or you’ll break. I personally love travelling, so on days when I’m off work, I take that daring trip to Greece or fly out to Singapore . Try out new food, meet new people. Have you always wanted to visit the seven wonders of the ancient world? Add it to your bucket list and start saving up for it now.

It could also be as simple and costless as taking a walk in the park with the one you love or having a picnic with the family. Stop being the sly friend in a group hangout. Reach out to the ones that are dare to your heart because they, like pillars, hold your strong building and keep you from falling.

Famous past American president, Franklin Roosevelt once said “Happiness lies in the joy of achievement and the thrill of effort”. You have to find bliss in what you to do. Keep building on these principles to live a balanced, happy and fulfilled life. No one promised it to be an easy ride but the end is definitely one to strive for.

5 things Successful People Never Say

Your words are tied to your mind. This in turn determines your level of productivity because your actions are a product of your thoughts. You must understand that the things you say count no matter how innocuous. What you become stems from your mindset, and it may seem trivial but negative words set up roadblocks for you unknowingly, trailing you off your path to success.

Having a positive outlook on life is a process. Your thoughts are positive, you speak positive, act positive and birth positivity. There are some things you should never say if you want to stay on track. Your decisions are highly influenced by your speech. You want to be successful? You want Forbes to know your name? Study the lives of people that attained this height and you’ll notice that that you’ll never hear them say any of this five phrases;

1. It’s impossible

Great achievers never see impossibilities, they proffer solutions. Never say “You can’t do it” or “It’s too difficult”. It may look unattainable now but it’s just a matter of time before that dream becomes a reality with hard work.

200 years ago, nobody could have ever thought it possible to pick up a phone and instantly message someone a million miles apart. It took great dreamers to catch the vision and see it possible. They had to go through tough processes, back lashing and a lot of rejection but the seeds they sewed are being harvested now. A lot of times, laziness makes us see our dreams as too farfetched. Look for people in that line that have gone ahead of you and seek mentorship. You can read their books, listen to their podcast and go for their talk shows. It would be even better if you’re able to work alongside with them physically.

Write that dream down. Read it to yourself every day. Let it be the first thing you see when you wake up in the morning and the last you see before going to sleep. Don’t stop reading books, keep doing research. Break that vision down and in no time you’ll start seeing it come to life.

Your approach to problems determines a lot. Understand that almost nothing in life is impossible. Look at that problem tactfully and bring up a profound solution. This way you’re seen as a problem solver and you make yourself of immeasurable value in your organization.

Draw out plans on how to achieve your goals. It’s not just enough to write down your dreams, work out sustainable plans to attain this height. Set challenges for yourself. Work hard with the right resources and in no time you’ll reach for the stars.

2. I will do it later

It’s essential that you commit yourself to work if you want to be successful, there’s no room for procrastination. Successful people prioritize and are exceptional at time management. They do not put off work till later, they do it now. Loafing is a habit of undetermined people. Never think you’re young and have plenty of time because the truth is, you don’t. You have more energy now and it is easier for you to get things done while you’re young.

You do not have time. One minute, you feel as though all the time in the world is at your feet, and the next you discover that you’re far behind where you hoped you’ll be. Great people are always conscious of time which motivates them to achieve more because they feel there’s a lot to do within a short time. They are also steered away from feelings of satisfaction and keep trying to achieve more. When you keep pushing things forward, they pile up and you become so overwhelmed with work that you end up doing a very bad job. This certainly causes you to be unproductive and can drag you down the success ladder.

Procrastination is one habit you need to trash if you ever want to be successful. Don’t do it later, do it now.

3. I can do it on my own

No man came to the world by jumping down the sky. In case you think you don’t need anybody remember that you came to the world through a person. We all move through stages in life by the help of those around us. The success walk is no different than this. You need people to guide you through and eliminate heavy obstacles from your path. No man is an island. Every single one of us needs the right association to thrive to success. At the same time, do not wait on others to start your plans or help you reach your goals. People are just there to guide you and make it easier. Do not heed to discouragements from the wrong people. Pick the right association.

Teamwork makes the dream work. It is vital to surround yourself with people of like minds who can help you reach your goals. Your team should be built of hardworking people who are success driven and are always available to brainstorm with you, review your work, give constructive criticism and proffer solutions to make things better. Attempting to achieve everything on your own will only slow you down and hurt your business and mind cause you’ll have no time to rest. Being able to work together with others is the hall mark of a good leader. You’re more likely to climb up your career ladder when you have people pushing you. When success finally comes, don’t claim it all to yourself, learn to give those that worked with you credit. Appreciation is a very important key. This way, they’re more likely to work with you on your next projects and you get to sustain great relationships. Also, a business that can properly network and cooperate with competitors is more likely to prosper. Learn to meet people and communicate effectively. Attend conferences, seminars and make notable contacts.

Don’t place yourself on a too high pedestal that you feel you can do everything on your own. You’re not a superhero, you need people too.

4. I’m not good enough

There’s no one without a talent. We all have something in us we can build on. If you keep living with the fear of failure, it will overshadow you so well that you don’t attempt to do anything and you actually end up a failure. It’s okay to have occasional doubts about your abilities cause even successful people are not spared from this. It’s what you do with your doubt that sets you apart. When doubt starts creeping in, do you bury yourself in this fear and let it determine who you are? Or do you confront and face your fears like a champion, rising above it?

Make good use of your fear. Use that doubt to develop yourself into an invaluable potential. Take note of your strength and weaknesses, build on your strength and work on your weaknesses. Don’t let them override you, instead use it to set yourself apart from the crowd. Never let people discourage you. Your past failures don’t determine your future success. Analyze your plans to identify those mistakes you made that can be worked on. Remember that if you never attempt to attain your dreams because of the fear of failure, then you’ve already failed.

5. I give up

Jeff Bezos once launched the unsuccessful Amazon fire phone. Famous inventor, Thomas Edison tried a thousand times before getting results. Check through the lives of successful people, they all had their times of challenges. What sets them apart is the fact that they didn’t let hell loose and give up when those obstacles arose, instead, they looked beyond those challenges and worked their way around it.

You might have just stepped out to start that business after multiple motivations and now the business is not thriving as much as you want it too or going on as smoothly. Don’t use this medium to let fear get at you and pack all up. Increase your efforts and develop your products more, find advertising outlets if you have to, improve yourself, do anything but give up. People at the top have also stumbled on their ride to success. Jeff Bezos eventually developed other tech products and the highly successful Echo. He’s now one of the top influential men in the world. All these were only possible because he didn’t throw in the towel and give up just when his career was about to hit the top. If you want to be successful, you must learn resilience and determination. Whoever said it was easy? Learn to see your failure as an opportunity to grow and progress.

To be successful, you need to build the right vocabulary. Stop speaking negativity, letting it influence your mindset and your outlook to life. Do not let your words undermine your chances at greatness. Maintain this attitude! Speak success, be success!

Thanks for your visit..

5 Bad Habits That Destroy Success

Your habits are your building force. When you let bad habits grow, they gradually impede your path to success. A lot of people out there have mindsets and attitudes that set them up automatically for failure. These habits are malignant, slowly dividing without you knowing how much damage they’ve done till they’ve aggravated. People often make the mistake of blaming their lack of success on not being smart or talented, but the truth is, the habits they’re keeping are probably their destructive factor.

Warren Buffet was right when he said “Chains of habit are too light to be felt till they are too heavy to be broken’. Breaking bad habits require a lot of self control and determination and the first step to this is acknowledging this habits. Here are five of the most egregious habits you must eliminate if you ever want to reach successful heights.

1. Procrastination

“You know, the weather is so cold today, I better sleep in and do that task tomorrow” Or “Just one more episode of these drama series, then I’ll go study”. I’m well certain a lot of us have been in positions were we made statements like the above, choosing our comfort at the moment over success in the long run. We do not realize how dangerous procrastination is until the deadline is near and we’re forced to rush through our work with no perfection. No one is immune to this raging disease, but you need to identify the symptoms and tackle it as fast as it comes. Before I started work on this article, I was scrolling through twitter and I kept telling myself this was the last video I was going to view or five more post then I’ll focus on my work. One hour later, I was still on it. I had to take drastic action by shutting down all my apps all together so I don’t get distracted by another notification on instagram, spending God knows how long there. Procrastination has been since the beginning of time and ancient Greek philosopher called it “Akrasia”-the state of acting against your better judgment. Doing one thing when you know you’re supposed to be doing something else. It takes a lot of self-control to deal with procrastination and a lot of people agree that it can’t be outrightly eliminated but can be greatly reduced. Most times we tend to procrastinate because the task looks so difficult we don’t want to get to it immediately. You can try taking time to break down that chore into bits before it grows into a pile load, overweighing you. You can also learn to multitask and fit your leisure in such a way that they don’t eat up your free time. Watch your favorite TV show while having dinner or get a pedicure while scrolling through emails from work. Have a to-do list and set your priorities right. Make sure they’re immediate consequences for your procrastination. Learn consistency and with time procrastination will be kicked out.

2. Bad association

The types of friends we keep go a long way to determine how successful we’ll be. Your acquaintances can either pull you up or down the success ladder. Never underestimate the power of influence. Peer influences most times are subtle and we’re blind to them till they’ve eaten deeply into us. Who are the people around you? If your friends are goal getters, you’ll most likely be an achiever too, but if you find yourself around lazy people that constantly drag you down, you might never amount to greatness. You need to cut off the wrong people in your life. These excess baggage keeps weighing you down and nudging you off course till you find yourself wondering how you got there in the first place. Limit or totally bar these types of people from your life while you still can.

Humans are not the only bad associations you can keep. Your environment also does a major one on you. What are you constantly feeding into your mind? Are you listening to negative podcasts or reading books that keep weighing you down. Disassociate yourself from them now.

Replace this negativity with the right people. Get role models; people that have gone ahead of you and you admirably want to become. These people might be close to you physically or you can read their books, listen to their podcasts or even try to work close to them if you can. When your mind is unwavering and constantly focusing on the future, you begin to possess a drive nobody can stop. You look ahead and consistently seek to get better. If those around you don’t love you, care about you or incessantly seek your progress, then they don’t deserve you. Find and build the right association.

3. Talking with no action

Dreams can come so big at times that all we just want to do is talk about it. The truth is, nobody cares if you want to be the next Beyonce until they start seeing you onscreen. Study has shown that the more time you spend talking about an idea, the less time you actually spend taking action towards it. Dreams like children are to be nurtured and properly groomed till they grow. It’s perfectly normal to want to brag about them but you must be careful not to let that get in the way of achieving them. Work hard and put so much drive into your dreams that your success and not just mere words make a statement for you.

You can keep constant reminders of your goals in other to set your focus. Talk less and write your vision down instead. My dad does something I find funny but seems to always work for him. He gets pictures of places he wants to be, his dream cars, houses and pastes them on the wall in his room. He wakes up every morning and this is the first thing he sees. This automatically propels a drive in him to aim higher which gives makes him more productivity throughout the day. Take time to properly break down your goals into achievable bits till it all starts coming together. Seek advice from the right people and be careful not to take to discouraging words from people that just want to put you down. Take to constructive criticism and do not stop educating yourself till you’re at the top.

4. Self debasement

Do you find yourself constantly thinking you’re not good enough? Are you keeping those talents under the wraps cause of fear of what people will say? If you find yourself in this category then I want you to do something really quick. Stop whatever you’re doing and stand in front of a mirror. Who do you see? Your reflection I suppose. I want you to stare deeply at your reflection and say “I am exceptional” at least five times. This looks like a pointless exercise but it’s very important for you to know that what you think and the words you say to yourself matter a lot.

You might have tried in the past and failed, but that has nothing to do with what the future holds for you. What mistakes did you make in time past that hindered result? Do your research and think of ways to eliminate that error till you get it. Famous inventor, Thomas Edison tried 1000 times before discovering the light bulb. Have you even tried up to twice?

It is also important to not rest on your past laurels. You might have written a best seller once and right now you are faced with the fear of never getting past that. You absolutely can. Pick that pen up and give us a more mind blowing bestseller.

You need to stop blaming your backgrounds and other factors beyond your control. Make what you have work for you. If you take a personal interview of the top people on Forbes list, you’ll realize that most of them started from nothing and didn’t necessarily come from a wealthy background. Comparing yourself to others won’t get you anywhere but only make you feel bad about wherever you’ve worked to reach because like it or not, you’ll always find people who are better than you. Take control right now. Speak positively. Don’t let self hate hinder you.

5. Making assumption

Never assume a plan wouldn’t’ work out until you’ve carefully done your research or perhaps tried it out. A lot of people have missed great opportunities in life because they were afraid to take risk. Yes, you should be very careful and meticulous with your plans but don’t play it so safe that you end up trying nothing. Outline your goals and work on facts not heresays. Your best friend tried it and it didn’t work doesn’t mean yours would amount to the same fate.

Before you go into a business, take a brief overview of all your competitors. What are they doing the same way that you’ll like to do differently? Evaluate your steps and be sure you’re yielding positive outcomes. Do not confuse being busy with being productive.

The path to success may seem to be filled with a lot of obstacles but dropping the wrong habits will definitely make walking that path easier. Build your future with the right habits.
